another fffabulous cardigan

Gauzy_StretchingAcresCardigan

It looks like I'm not the only one who shops at Anthropologie these days. Miss Zoe found the perfect top in this Gauzy Stretching Acres Cardigan and I'm tempted to get it too. It's just too cute, classy and versatile.

"I bought this Gauzy Cardigan last month when I was in Anthropologie looking for something I could wear to work but could also look cute enough for date night. This top has great crossover appeal. It's short sleeved and just the right weight to layer. For work I wear it over a long sleeved tee or even a crisp white shirt and for date night it's all about a camisole and a long necklace.

They have a variety of colours: I went with the grey with purple undertones though there's a beautiful turquoise/jade, which was a definite contender (though isn't on their website). One of the things I like most about it is that it has delicate details in the form of tiny little buttons at the side where it crosses over. They are visible on one side on the outside and then tucked hidden away on the inside on the other. In addition to being exceptionally pretty they make the top convertible so you can mix up the ways to wear it. If you do up all the buttons it gathers and drape nicely, and if you choose to leave some of them undone it will hang and drape in another pretty way.

I get compliments every time I wear this sweater. I'm actually considering going back for the other colour this weekend!"

splendid cascading cardigan

Splendid_CascadingCardigan

I am a sucker for cardigans. Because they are just so practical, and can be thrown on top of any tees when it gets chilly outside. My latest crush is for the Splendid Cascading Cardigan in dark grey I found at Anthropologie. It is fluid, elegant, and easy to wear with just about anything: it'll dress up any casual outfit or a little black dress. And it won't break the bank either. A must-have this season!

Note that it runs big so get one size smaller than you usually wear.

when nude is really not nude

One of my girlfriends always has a hard time finding underwear that doesn't show through. Because "nude" isn't nude on her skin. This was until she discovered the MySkins bras and panties. These bras and panties are available in twenty skin matching colors, and are designed to be truly invisible. Wow, what a great idea, and WHY had nobody thought about this before?? Just goes to show, one woman's challenge is another one's opportunity. Next thing you know, my friend had tried out the MySkins bra and pantie, and since then, she just can't stop raving about them...and here is the email she sent me (literally) after she received and tried on her newly acquired 'nude' underwear:

MySkins_Bra

"OMG!!!! I haven't been this excited about lingerie since I purchased my first La Perla in Italy years ago. My MySkins bra and pantie came today and I am SO in LOVE with them! I tried them on immediately and—true to their claim—they are a perfect match for my nutmeg-colored skin. They literally disappear under clothing! I'm telling you they are INVISIBLE. My cousin was visiting and took lots of pics of me in several sheer and form fitting garments to give you a sense of how absolutely true-to-skin they are (see pictures above and below). They are so invisible that I had to use a ribbon to differentiate my skin from the under garments in the pics! I can't wait to tell ALL my friends about MySkins and I see myself becoming a loyal customer. They've already made me a HUGE fan overnight! I am absolutely SOLD."

MySkins_Pantie

So if nude is really not nude for you too, request your free color card which will be mailed to you to determine your color, measure yourself appropriately, and get your order in. You'll sure look fffabulous in your new MySkins 'nude' bra and pantie!

jet blanket jacket

JetbyJohnEshaya_BlanketJacket I splurged on this Jet by John Eshaya Blanket Jacket in Dove Grey the other day, and I love love love it. It's long, practical and extremely comfy—so much I am already considering retiring it to wear exclusively at home. I mean, you have to admit: it's cool to look fffabulous while lounging at home in your PJs, right? This blanket jacket also exists in white, and although I don't think I could wear it outside (it's just too white and casual), it'd be the perfect cover up to wear over a bathing suit on a tropical or Saint-Tropez vacation, Hayden Pannetiere's style. Oh, and Lindsay Lohan got this Jet blanket jacket in White and Dove Grey. Isn't it fffabulous?

it's brilliant!

http://www.typepad.com/site/blogs/6a00e54f0cac3d883400e54f0cac3f8834/post/6a00e54f0cac3d883401157115fd04970b/edit#Aveda_BrilliantShampoo I am a big fan of Aveda hair care products. They make your hair feel so nice and soft, and all of their products smell so yummy. I have been using the Aveda Brilliant Shampoo for six months now, and I love it. First of all, the smell is absolutely amazing; the shampoo just smells like the most delicious candy, and ever since I started using it, my hair has been more shiny and smooth and just looks much healthier in general. I love the big bottle (1L) with the pump that comes with it, since it allows me to use just the right amount of product (2 "psssts" and I'm good), and the bottle lasts me a solid six months. But I recommend you first try the 250ml bottle just to make sure you like how your hair feels when using this shampoo (we all have different hair and preferences, after all). I also love the Aveda Rosemary Mint Shampoo; it smells absolutely yummy and fresh, and your hair will look amazing, too.

aveda blue malva conditioner

Aveda_BlueMalvaColorConditioner

My colorist is fffabulous. And she became even more fffabulous (if that's even possible!) the day she recommended the Aveda Blue Malva Conditioner. This blue concoction will not only make your blond hair shinier and softer, but it will also neutralize any orange tones that may appear after you over-wash your blond highlights. I've recommended this Aveda Blue Malva Conditioner to all my blond girlfriends and even discovered that my brunette girlfriends love the Aveda Black Malva Conditioner just as much to intensify their deeper, dark hues. You can also use the Aveda Blue Malva Shampoo (or Black Malva Shampoo for brunettes), but I found it to be less effective. Plus, I *love* my Aveda Brilliant Shampoo...

thermaclear acne clearing device

ThermaClear_AcneClearingDevice

Miss Zoe has one more beauty reco for us with this acne clearing device. It seems like a big deal to clear out occasional breakouts, but it seems like it's working wonders and definitely worth using!

"I would never have bought this device, but we received it as a gift from one of my husband's clients. I had read about it however, and was very excited to try it. The ThermaClear Acne Clearing Device is essentially a 'zit zapper'—it uses pulses of heat to treat spots. Saying I was skeptical is an understatement, but it works! It makes a significant difference to the duration and seriousness of breakouts. You hold it up to your face and press the button for it to zap the area, hold it there until it beeps, and that's it. It does hurt a small amount, there's no question about it, but it's a quick little zap vs. drawn out agony.

I have used it for about 18 months for occasional breakouts and it definitely makes a difference. I now pack it when I travel because I dread the thought of a breakout the day before a big meeting in one of our remote offices! It's sold at on amazon.com or at Sephora and is still a pricey $149, which is a bit much, but so worth it when a zit comes around!"

covergirl outlast lipstain

Covergirl_OutlastLipstainMiss Zoe is back with some fffabulous beauty recommendations—didn't you like her recos on the Transformation Face Cream by Jan Marini and DERMAdoctor Physical Chemistry? This time, she tells us all about her crush on the CoverGirl Outlast Lipstain, and we can't wait to try it out!

"I sometimes wear lipstick at work or out to dinner, but ten minutes later it's worn off and I forget to reapply. I'd heard some good buzz about this new CoverGirl Outlast Lipstain and its variety of colours, and to be honest I'm a sucker for Drew Barrymore endorsed products, so the last time I was at Target with my sis I picked one up.

Boy is the term 'stain' accurate! Having minimal patience, I applied the stain in the parking lot using my sister's sunglasses as a mirror. Her feedback was 'you might want a little chapstick on first before you do that next time'. She was definitely right. The Outlast Lipstain penetrated immediately and I wasn't as precise as I should have been. Oops! Living up to the claims though, it lasted all through lunch and well into the afternoon. It was true to the colour on the tip of the pen, though not that of the tube. The good news being that most drugstores will let you return makeup these days even if it's opened, so if you can't decide, buy two shades and you should be able to get your money back on the one that doesn't work for you.

The next day I did put on lip balm first and then (using a real mirror) applied the stain again. This time it was perfect! All the women at work told me I looked 'polished' and 'fresh', and when I told them this $6 lipstain was the only difference, they were sold. I've worn it almost every day since, and it's bright enough to be fun and trendy, but is still work appropriate."

stila lip glaze

Stila_LipGlaze

I've tried a lot of lip glosses over the years, but the Stila Lip Glaze lip gloss remains my all-time favorite. It is sticky enough that it won't rub off in 5 minutes, and it also comes in a lot of classic neutral shades (and the scent is delicious too!). My favorite shades are passion fruit for rosy days and vanilla for a more nude look. And I recently discovered the equally fffabulous Stila Plumping Lip Glaze. It makes your lips fuller, and your lips will feel minty fresh. Me likey! And, it can be worn as is, or with your favorite lip color.

You're just one 'click' away from getting glossier, more luscious lips with this lip glaze click pen...

you're gonna be blown away!

Spornette_Prego_CeramicStylingBrush

The last fffabulous beauty week was a huge success, so we thought it'd be fffun to have another fffabulous beauty week starting today. Yay! So why not start this week with something that will make your life SO much easier while making you look truly fffabulous at the same time? And may I add that it won't cost you a fffortune either??

One of my girlfriends always has the best blow dry ever, and her secret is to use the Spornette Prego Ceramic Styling Brush. Who would have thought a hair brush would make all the difference in the world (aside from having the best hair dryer, the T3 Bespoke Labs Hair Dryer, of course)? Kathy uses the Jumbo brush size (4") and then finishes up with the Large brush size (2½") to do the front and top of her hair. And for the record, another one of my girlfriends purchased these brushes, and during her girls' trip to Paris, all the ladies loved this brush and couldn't believe how great it was. And for less than $25 for both brushes, you won't break the bank, and you sure will look fffabulous!

fffabulous sale: pete tee

Pete_Longsleeve_VTee_With_Tulle I may sound like a broken record but here is yet another one of my fffavorite tees. I love tees, mostly because they are comfy and practical, but also because I can dress them up or down depending on the occasion; and most importantly, you don't have to dry clean them. Ah ha! My dear friend Yvette and I discovered this Pete Long-sleeve V Tee at a local boutique about two years ago, and it's been one great fffind! Not only do I still wear them (I got this tee in both gray and brown), but I still get complimented on them every time. This tee is just the cutest and quite unique with the very flattering v-neckline, the exposed seams, and the tulle at the bottom (that's one unique detail!). It's also fitted at the arms and body for a perfect silhouette and won't stretch overtime with its blend of 50% cotton and 50% polyester. This is a must-have for this summer, and the next one, and the next one.

fffabulous sale: inhabit summer tank sale

Inhabit_EssentialCottonTank

When it rains, it pours. Inhabit is having a fffabulous tank sale and they all are 70% off their original price. What's not to like? My very favorite is the essential cotton tank. It's practical, chic and easy to wear as is or layered. And don't forget to check out their sweater sale, too! The stretch cashmere hoodie is my very favorite. Happy shopping!

the Michelle Obama way

Don't you love it when Very Important People dress at the Gap? And not just to run errands, but to actually meet other Very Important People? Well, this is what our very own First Lady Michelle Obama did when she sported a simple Gap striped summer tee with an equally adorable floral summer cardigan to meet another First Lady, Nancy Reagan. Now, you have to admit that this is totally  awesome, right? MichelleObama_NancyReaganAnd not only is this a very cute outfit, it also teaches us a few things about fffashion and style along the way. When putting together such an outfit, always:

  • Use the same palette of colors when mixing different patterns. I can hear Stacy London and Clinton Kelly from What Not To Wear mention this rule over and over again during Shannon's makeover; they'd sure be happy to see that Michelle got it right.
  • Pair this with a classic white pencil skirt. It just goes perfectly with Michelle's mix-and-match tee and cardigan.
  • Keep it simple and classy with a few accessories—gotta love this timeless, long pearl necklace and a very simple bracelet.
  • And last but not least, it's not what you wear, it's how you wear it—with confidence, style and simplicity, that is!

So if Michelle can make a Gap twin-set look like a thousand bucks, so can we. Or should I say: "Yes, we can!" (Sorry, that was just too easy!). Thanks for the inspiration, Michelle! And thanks for the fffabulous tip, Natala.

sharon segal trunkshow at romi boutique

This is the time of the year when romi boutique is having another Sharon Segal trunk show starting today until Sunday, June 7th at 624 Emerson Street in Palo Alto. And of course, I am super excited about it! Why? Because Sharon Segal has the finest tees and tops ever. And this is your chance to order your fffavorite top in any color you want, so hurry and pick out your fffavorites before someone else snags them!

I bought five tops last year, and the guilty feeling I had at the cash register disappeared very quickly once I wore them all over and over again, while getting a lot of compliments along the way. Sharon Segal also has a lot of cute new tops this season, too. Are you ready to shop 'til you drop?

PS: Here are a few of our fffavorites: the cap sleeve v-neck tee, the flower burnout tank, and the romance dress. Shhhhhhh...

sharon segal leopard burnout tee

SharonSegal_LeopardBurnoutTee_Cropped As some of you know, Sharon Segal is one of my favorite tee brands. And many of you should also know that I have a thing for leopard prints, whether it'd be on shoes, scarves, thermal tees, etc. (But not to worry, my fffashion etiquette prevents me from wearing all of these all at once. Phew!). So when the two come together, I just can't resist. Sharon Segal has the cutest leopard print tee with this Leopard Burnout Tee in white. I love the white-on-white pattern, which makes the leopard burnout print subtle while making this tee very unique. As with any other Sharon Segal tee, this tee also has a slim body, lays low on the hip, and sports a crew neck and short sleeves. I recommend you were a white cami underneath to keep your most intimate details to yourself, and because layering is hot, too.

And because I often don't stop at one, I also fell for the Sharon Segal Leopard Burnout Tee in black. It's equally cute yet more sophisticated. No cami needed this time (unless you really want to). You can wear this fancy tee with a nude bra during the daytime and a black bra at night for a more dramatic effect. Sexiness guaranteed.

June 01, 2009

it's tee time!

SharonSegal_CapSleeveVNeckTee Summer is here! Okay, technically speaking it isn't quite summer yet, but doesn't it feel great to already be in June and get to enjoy the warm sunny weather? I have officially swapped my heavy sweaters and tall boots for my summer tees and wedge sandals, and I can't help but share about one of my favorite tees of all time, the Sharon Segal Cap Sleeve V-neck Tee. This tee is ultra soft, extremely long, and has the most flattering v-neck line. I know it seems like all v-neck line tees are the same, but try it and you'll be sold. My favorite color is Midnight, a nice deep navy blue that goes well with jeans, but any of their basic colors—Black, White, Charcoal—is a go! The price tag is a bit on a high side, but you'll wear this tee all week long whether it'd be on weekends with a nice pair of jeans or sweats, or even at the office. That's one of the advantages of this tee falling to the low hip—there won't ever be any inappropriate disclosure!

L*Space bikini

LSpace_Bikini Summer is almost here, and even though I'm still purchasing cashmere sweaters (for chilly nights, that is), I went on a quest for the perfect bikini. And lucky me, I found it in this gorgeous L*Space "Slinky Solids" Twister Top and this Diva D-Ring Hipster Bottom. I love everything about it. The plum color is gorgeous and different from your classic black, brown or red swimsuits. The halter top is classic and flattering to any figure with its twister-style bust. But what I like the most about this suit is its matching hipster bottom. I love that it's low rise and features large, goldtone D-rings on the side for a very sophisticated James Bond-like look. I also love that you can buy the top and bottom separately for a perfffect fffit, so measure up and order the sizes that fit you best. All in all, it's the perfect bikini to sport on a yacht in Saint-Tropez this summer, or at your usual summer vacation spot. Just be ready to have all eyes on you!

And as if it couldn't get any better than that, Hautelook.com is having a sale on L*Space swimsuits starting tomorrow until Sunday, so stay tuned for the hottest deals. We'll be twittering about all our fffavorites then. Not familiar with Hautelook.com? Email us for an invite. You'll be glad you did!

summer sandals

Joie_FreeFallin'ThongHuaracheSandals One of my girlfriends was wearing these Joie Free Fallin' Thong Huarache Sandals in Cognac the other day, and I thought they were just the cutest. They are a nice alternative to the gladiator sandals (no tan lines on your feet, eheh!) and will look great with boyfriend or capri jeans and long dresses this summer. These leather thong sandals are beautifully made with woven upper and leather sole, and super trendy with the zipper closure at heel cap. They fit true to size and are a bit on the narrow side.

They are available in Cognac (a classic), Caviar (gotta love the name), and Light Gold (yum!). I vote for the metallic ones to wear with my BCBG draped sleeve mini dress.

inhabit lightweight cashmere crewneck

Inhabit_LightweightCashmereCrewneck

I've never mentioned it before, but Inhabit has great stuff for men, too. And gentlemen, here is an Inhabit cashmere sweater you will adore and wear over and over again until you decide to buy another Inhabit sweater, because you won't just stop at one, trust me. The other day, my friend Lisa mentioned that she got this 100% fine gauge cashmere sweater for her boyfriend, and it has now become his absolute fffavorite—I kid you not! According to him, this cashmere crewneck sweater is so lightweight you won't ever feel too hot (although I am sure you'll look hot in it), and it's so thin it won't ever look bulky. The 'unfinished' hemlines and exposed seams also give it a casual yet trendy look. All in all, you'll be comfy and look hot without even trying; this is the perfect staple every man should have in his closet!

And ladies, it's an amazing gift idea for your sweetie, or it makes the perfect Father's Day gift!

bcbg draped sleeve minidress

Bcbgmaxazria_drapedsleeveminidress

The other day, I was flipping through the BCBG catalog and this draped sleeve mini dress caught my eye. I love the simplicity of this dress with its square neckline, three-quarter draped sleeve, and banded hem; not to mention its practicality (gotta love the non-wrinkly 100% modal fabric) and its price, too. Only $108! To me, it's the perfect dress to pack in your luggage when you're going on a tropical vacation, or to wear with flip-flops before and after lounging by the pool. The next day, I went to the store to try it on. Oh my, this dress looks so sexy and stylish on. Actually, forget the flip-flops; pair this dress with some gold stilettos, and I guarantee you'll look like a million bucks. And you'll wear this piece from season to season since it will never go out of style. This dress also exists in a luminous blue color, which I'm tempted to buy, too!

fffabulous sale: inhabit stretch cashmere hoodie

Inhabit_StretchCashmereHoodie

In case you ladies are wondering what you could possibly get at the Inhabit spring sample sale in NYC today and tomorrow, or if you cannot make it, at the online sale coming up next week, here is some inspiration. I recently fell for this Inhabit cashmere pullover hoodie. I know it's springtime and that the days are getting longer and warmer, but this hoodie will be your best friend on the weekends, during chilly nights this summer, and then right into the fall when you'll want to start wearing cute sweaters with your beloved tall boots.

I love this hoodie because it is long and fitted, thanks to the small amount of Lycra that adds a little stretch to the piece. It is also beautifully done with a button closure along the cuff, and the exposed seams that give it a distinct casual look. So chic! And it's so soft and comfy, you'll never want to take it off. Inhabit really brought casual to a whole new level with this cashmere pullover hoodie.

sue london flats

SueLondon_SlippersAs you may have already noticed, I am obsessed with high heel shoes. Yet every now and then, I wish I owned a nice pair of flat shoes that I can just throw on and walk miles in. Perfectly enough, I found this pair of Sue London shoes that I absolutely love! The Sue London leather slippers are just the comfiest and cutest flats I have ever tried on. They come in a lot of great colors, but my favorites remain the metallic ones since they are just too hip and adorable. And the best part is that these flats come with a small leather bag in the same color so you can keep them handy in your purse, car, etc. at all times, making it super practical when you are sightseeing or need to walk to a train or bus station. They run small so get a size bigger than you usually wear. And they also come in baby sizes; too cute!

loeffler randall aspen nude platforms

I have a thing for Loeffler Randall shoes. I discovered this brand last year, and it seems that they cannot release a pair of shoes without me going totally gaga over it. I got the Yvette booties and the Luna platform boots last Winter and I adore them; they are just so comfy and so sexy! But now that the weather is warming up and I get to wear a lot of yellow (eheh!), a pair of nude shoes is in order. Well, Loeffler Randall once again delivered with this pair of Aspen Nude Platforms. I love the height (4.25" heel with 1.25" platform), the tan color that goes so well with cute dresses and white or distressed jeans, and the leather ruffle detail that is so in this season. I also love it that they are so comfortable and easy to walk in. Thank you, Loeffler Randall! And they do fit true to size.

And we have a surprise for you guys. You can get these fffabulous Loeffler Randall Aspen Nude Platforms for 20% off using the coupon code Fffab20 on habitatshoes.com. j.crew rosette-ruffle cardigan

JCrew_Cardigan One of my colleagues always wears the cutest, most colorful outfits. Every time I ask her where she got that top or cardigan, she replies: "J.Crew", and every time my response is always: "Lady, you've got to teach me how to shop there!". Next thing you know, she gets this beautiful cardigan at J.Crew, wears it to work, and of course, I fall in love with it! I love the cardigan look to start with, and the feminine touch with the chiffon and tulle rosettes at the neckline and placket give it just the perfect touch. Plus, it's made of silk and linen, and I am sucker for luxurious fabrics. And it is on sale for $100, instead of $148. Throw this cardigan on top of a white tank top, pair it with some jeans and flats, and you'll be all set. Classy and comfy!

And take an extra 20% off all items in the J.Crew spring sale through Friday, May 1st, 2009 by entering EXTRA20 at checkout.

you got me at yellow

Vince_YellowCardigan A few weeks ago, I started to have cravings for anything yellow. Next thing I know, everyone I 'run into' online or on TV wears that yellow cardigan that I want so bad. Rachel, Michelle, Oprah, even Kelly Ripa in her Electrolux commercial—they all wear yellow. After browsing a few shopping sites, I narrowed down my choices to a J.Crew long sleeve classic yellow cardigan and a Vince cashmere yellow cardigan. I polled my fffabulous readers to help me decide which one to get, silently hoping the Vince sweater would win, hehe! Yes, that's how much I love cashmere.

While the fffabulous readers were voting—and fffavoriting the Vince cardigan over the J.Crew one (yay!)—Vicky and I went to the popsugar party at the top floor of Saks Fifth Avenue a few weeks ago. We were sipping champagne and shopping for the latest and greatest fashion items displayed on the mannequins when I saw a splash of yellow a few rows down. The Vince yellow cardigan was calling my name! I grabbed a few sizes and a couple of tee-shirts, and next thing you know, I am trying out the Vince yellow cardigan (pictured here). And guess what? The first try was a charm. My yellow cardigan fit perfectly; it is soft, comfy, fitted and I love all the details about it: the rushed v-nceck line, the half sleeves, and the patch pockets at the low hip. Me happy!

house of harlow black leather ring

HouseofHarlow_BlackLeatherRingI was checking the House of Harlow look book on popsugar the other day and I couldn't help but love the clothes Nicole Richie wears on it. Aren't they fffabulous? I love the hippie-chic, colorful style. I can see myself wearing these dresses all summer long—in the South of France, with gladiator flats and all. But I digress...I finally checked out the House of Harlow jewelry collection and I was seduced: each model is original, each piece looks unique, and everything is so affordable. Next thing I know, my girlfriend Lynn pings me to let me know she ordered the House of Harlow Black Leather Ring. Lynn always wears big, beautiful and bold rings, and I always love them. I don't think it will be any different when she wears her black leather ring: it is so different from any rings I've seen around, and I love the fact that it combines leather and Swarovski crystals. It's the perfect ring to accessorize a casual outfit or a little black dress. And for $70? Hello!? We should all wear one and compliment each others, ha!

fffabulous sale: inhabit cotton tops

Inhabit is having another fffabulous sale. Woohoo! And this time, all their cotton tanks and tops are on sale (70% off and up) from April 20th to April 24th, 2009. What's not to like? I love their essential cotton tank; I got it in black in the fall, and I wear it all the time. It looks better and classier than a regular cotton tank top, and I love pairing it up my Louis Vuitton Stephen Sprouse Shawl. So sexy! I also love their wide strap cotton tank—the beewax color is so pretty, and the thin strap tank—the fig color is one color that is so unique to Inhabit; I like! And of course, their cotton cardigan, cotton crew, and cotton v-neck are the perfect tops to ease into summertime. And for this price, who would even think twice about getting a few?Inhabit_CottonSale
